Oneida County Executive Administrative Assistant District Attorney Seeking Utica City Court Judgeship
Grant J. Garramone, Esq., today announced his intention to seek election to be Utica City Court Judge. The position of Utica City Court Judge is up for election in 2023 with the retirement of the Honorable Ralph J. Eannace whose term expires on December 31, 2023.
Garramone, a member of the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office since 1996, currently serves as the Executive Administrative Assistant District Attorney for Oneida County. Garramone has served as an Assistant District Attorney for both District Attorney Scott McNamara and former District Attorney Michael Arcuri. As Executive Administrative Assistant District Attorney, Garramone manages the daily operations of the District Attorney’s Office, helps to implement the policies and procedures of the District Attorney and assists in the oversight of criminal investigations and prosecutions in Oneida County.
In addition to his responsibilities as Executive Administrative Assistant District Attorney, Garramone also serves as a co-chair of the statewide forfeiture law advisory group, a subcommittee of the District Attorney’s Association of the State of New York.
During his tenure as an Assistant District Attorney, Garramone contemporaneously served the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York as a Special Assistant United States Attorney from November 2001 through October 2022. In that role Garramone assisted with the investigation and prosecution of federal drug and gun crimes and helped to coordinate joint investigations and prosecutions in Oneida County. Garramone served on the Utica Weed and Seed Crime Prevention Committee, a community-based endeavor that operated in the City of Utica to reduce drug crime and violence.
Garramone is a 2017 recipient of the New York State District Attorney’s Association’s Robert W. Morgenthau award for “professional accomplishments, honesty, integrity and commitment to the fair and ethical administration of justice.”
Garramone has prosecuted in-excess of one thousand cases in his twenty-six-year career and stated that “My prosecutorial, supervisory and administrative experiences have prepared me to assume the duties and responsibilities of a Utica City Court Judge.”
In addition to his prosecutorial duties, Garramone has been an adjunct instructor of Business Law at Utica University since 2005.
Prior to joining the District Attorney’s Office, Garramone was an associate attorney in the law firm of Julian and Pertz, PC.
A lifelong resident of Oneida County, Garramone is a 1994 Graduate of Syracuse University College of Law, a 1991 graduate of Utica College, a 1989 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College and a 1988 graduate of Utica Senior Academy.
Garramone and his wife, Laura Shea Garramone, Esq., reside in Utica with their three children.
